Resolution problems on my HDTV

I have my computer hooked up to my HDTV. When I first hooked it up a while back I had to do some work to get it fit perfectly. Now, I have updated some drivers and it reset, and I don’t know how to get it working again, or even what resolution I was running at.

I went into the Nivida control panel and used the “resize” option to set the image to fit my tv. This automatically set the resolution to 1200x675 based on how I sized it. I believe that it is a 16:9 ratio and I am sure the TV is a 16:9 so it fits.

The problem is if I change the resolution, say to 1280x720, the screen expands and the edges are cut off. The only way to resize the desktop that I know of, the nividia control panel, auto sets it to a resolution based on how you resized it.

So why does resizing my desktop to fit automatically set the resolution? I believe that on my regular desktop monitor resizing the image was on the monitor and had nothing to do with setting the resolution on the desktop.

My desktop looks fine with the automatically set 1200 by 675 resolution. But my games look squished on the horizontal when i set them to my montior resolution.

What kind of TV do you have and what is the model number. What kind of input are you using DVI,VGA,HDMI,etc. Also if you have the manual it should tell you what the default res is for you TV.

I have a 65" Mitsubishi DLP TV. Its the medallion seris I think. I have it hooked up with component cables.

The only confusion I have is why setting my resolution causes the desktop to expand out from view. Its been a while since I used a normal monitor but I remember you could even set a resolution that didnt fit the screen, it would just look funny. And the option to strech/skew your desktop was on the bottom of the monitor, and tweaking it didnt change the resolution you had set.

The annoying part is that I had it working before, so I know its possible. On my desktop control pannel, my tv is listed as "generic non-pnp monitor". I think before it actually listed it as HDTV. I know that currently the Nividia control panel recognizes it as an HDTV.
