My Sony note book with Win XP is restarting on its on in the middle of me working on it and then the screen changes to white with a message how to restore it since there was a problem, Why is this happening??
 
Look in the event viewer, it should tell you what is causing the restart. Have you added any new hardware or software lately?
 
Right click on "my computer" and click on manage, then click on event viewer on the left when the page opens. You will find a few sub headings, go through each to see if there are any errors reported. Your errors should be listed under system though.
 
Adding to what John said, here is an easier way to see what you have in Event Viewer...

Please download VEW and save it to your Desktop: http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe

Double-click VEW.exe then under Select log to query, select:
Application
System

Under Select type to list, select:
Critical (Vista only)
Error

Click the radio button for Number of events
Type 20 in the 1 to 20 box
Then click the Run button.
Notepad will open with the output log.

In Notepad, click Edit > Select all then Edit > Copy
Reply to this post, click in the reply window and press Ctrl+V on your keyboard to paste the log.
