im trying to re-vamp my buddies old laptop (toshiba satellite a45-s120 MN. psa40u06fv3v). whenever i go to start the computer, im presented with the options for safe mode and such. ive tried all the options on screen, safemode, last know working config, etc. all lead me to the same dead end. when i choose the option, it will begin to load then suddenly restart itself. im trying to retrive his music off of this computer, but if all else fails, he just needs it to work. please let me know if anyone has any ideas about how to approach this problem. almost forgot, the safemode screen appears before i can enter his bios, that was my only bright idea around this problem.
 
have you tried booting the laptop with XP and choose to repair. You can also use the chkdsk command at the prompt
 
yeah, ive put in an xp disk, but the computer restarts before i can even get into the bios and tell it to boot from the cd drive.
