You need to post this in the operating system section of the Computer Forum

Errmm, there is system restore. But I bet that doesn't have dates that go back further than a month on your PC. I would just re-install XP, but you say you don't have the disc. Why do you want to take Windows back to the very beginning, if you don't mind me asking? Is there a specific problem you are having?

What you will need to do first is format, if you are looking to start from scratch.

Then you will need an Xp Home/Professional CD to re-install windows.

Wrong section to post. We will not answer your question unless you post it in the right section of the forum. Read before you post anything.

For goodness, sake... there's no moderator for this forum? Who are you supposed to call to get threads moved and such?

Okay, reported post, asked nicely for this to be moved to the appropriate section. Hopefully I won't be banned for "abusing" teh Report Bad Post engine.

What kind of laptop do you have? If you do restores and such by hitting F10 or F11, then that's how you would also do a format and reinstall.

Don't forget to back all your important data up.

YOu could also try performing a repair install before format and reinstall, unless you are virus-ridden and that's the reason for starting from scratch.

Which is why I want to apply to be a mod in this section ;) :)

They are not going to ban you for that. The moderators and admins at this site are responsible. If they ban you it will be because it was warranted. Also I believe that they don't really need a moderator for this section. There are moderators for all the technical sections and any one of them from time to time seem to pop down here to make sure we are all in line :). Give them time they are not getting paid for their time and efforts but are doing it for the good of the community.

Oh, I know about that, I mod at three different sites and I'm an admin in one. I also know that if there is no assigned mod, then the admin has to come in here and move the thread... admins have lots better things to do, making sure we have a forum to visit and such, than to do simple maintenance stuff like this.

I started a thread making a suggestion that they assign mods to the seven unmoderated sections... they'll either say something to the effect of "thanks for the input" or "go stuff it" or a combination of both.
