Restore Point encounters error, wont restore....

I downloaded and installed the nvidia 8 series driver update, and from then on for some reason I cant restore my system at all..

It always encounters an unknown error upon reboot and the system files and programs could not be restored.

What do I do...is this an issue where the system is corrupt and now needs to be exchanged?
 
I have also been having problems with system restore and someone here in the forum said that if you have a USB external drive even just plugged into your computer, then the creation of a system restore point won't work (this is on windows xp) - but you won't know about it until you try to restore to that point.

Do you have a usb drive plugged in? If not, then maybe someone here will know if it has something to do with the nvidia driver update.
