Here's the situation. The processor on my old computer is fried, therefore it will not turn on. I have a lot of pertenant information on my old hard drive that I need to access. I bought a new computer and I'm wondering how I can transfer files and applications from my OLD hard drive into my NEW hard drive.

Give me some options.

Appreciate it...

how old's the computer? If it's that that old, it should have a stardard 3.5" IDE harddrive. if that's the case, just hook it up to your current computer and set the jumpers to slave. Then you should be able to access it through windows and transfer the data over.

You can easilly slave the drive from the old case by either mounting it directly under the drive in the current case or use a 5 1/4" adapter to slide into a free bay. The center connector on the ide cable connected to the current drive is the one to connect to the old drive after moving the jumper pin on the back of the drive to the SL position as it may be seen if not stamped as slave.

If the drive is still inaccessible after installation in the new case for some reason one of the Linux Live for cd distros would be used. These go by names such as Ubuntu or Knoppix which are a self contained OS on a cd. You would want to try the Windows method first however due to familiarity.
