Returned emails I didn't send

Not sure I am in the right forum with this, but for the past few months I have been getting these types of email:

[email protected] <[email protected]>

Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

then the message will sometimes have an attachment, sometimes not.

Then the address will be part of my name , usually, but with a different internet service provider than what I use. Some times it will be my proper email address, yet I have not emailed any of these people. My spam program catches most of them , but not all. Why do I get these emails, is it a backdoor attempt to get spam through? I keep my antivirus up to date and run it and spybot often. It is annoying to keep getting these returned messages that I didn't send.

Thanks for your thoughts.

first off, Delivery Status Notification (Failure) as it's said is only for mails failed to deliver but in your case you need to check with your ISP or whoevers hosting emails because even if the address is right then there's a problem somewhere at server level

Check your sent folder for copies of the sent e-mails you didn't send for clues.
Your e-mail account my have just been hacked and used for spam.

I have the same problem except I am sending emails to people ! Also, i find that some emails i get say they have been sent hours or even days before i recieve them ?? Are these related ? Could it be a network problem ?
