Reusing heat sinks?

Is it ok to reuse a heat sink?I was reading on the AMD instructions for a old xP 1800 that you should not.


It says,,
Once the phase change thermal compound has come into contact with the processor surface the heat sink must be replaced since the phase change material cannot be reused.

would it be ok just to remove the material and apply new?

Heat-sinks can be re-used; thermal paste/pads cannot. If you pull off a HSF, then you need to remove the old paste/pad, then apply new stuff. The actual metal heat-sink is fine.
