reusing my CPU

I'm in the process of reusing some of my stock computer parts in a new computer build and I'm going to use my AMD athelon 64 x2 6000+ in my new build. I have a new heat sink and parts on the way. When I last looked the CPU had white grease on it. When I put it in my new motherboard and heat sink how do I clean the old grease off or do I need to? This cpu was a stock CPU in an HP media center.

Thanx in advance.

you should clean it off and use new thermal paste. just wipe off as much as you can with a paper towel, then put a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton swap and wipe it clean.

then apply new stuff, and you are good to go
