reverting book type

i have a samsung SH-S183L which has been an extremely great reliable burner.. up until now. i tried changing the book type on the burner but nothing i used seemed to fully support the burner. in the end, i used dvd pro and img burn to try to change the booktype for dvd+r and dvd+rw media to dvd-rom for when i burn dual layered discs. however, everything i burned after tht were coasters (10 of them.) is there anyway to safely revert the burner back to original settings? i dont want to try myself as i said, nothing i tried earlier fully supported this burner.
