Ripping a DVD movie to a hard drive.

I have just used DVD shrink and it worked well. My main goal is to get my DVD's down to DivX files to watch them on my laptop. I was hoping I could get the files to around 700 or 800 megabytes a movie. Any help?

check out dr. divx. thats what i used.
