Rome Total War problem

I'm having a problem with Rome Total War. It was running fine until the power went out and then came back on a couple days ago. for some reason went I start the game up and before I enter the battle or campaign map, all the words that were on the screen stay on the screen when they should have disappeared. Also the mouse leaves a long trail of blinking cursors when you move it. What's going on?

BTW, I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

Thanks!

Is it just with Total War or does the problem affect other games? Have you tried reinstalling the graphics card drivers as well?

I actually just uninstalled all other games.

How do I reinstall the graphics card drivers? If that doesn't work I'll install other games and try them.

They're available for download from the manufacturer's website. If you need to know the model of your card and don't, right click on the desktop, click properties and click on the settings tab. It should display it as "Plug & Play Monitor on xxxxx" for example.

Ok, I installed the drivers, but the problem hasn't been fixed.

I'll try other games later today.

EDIT: The problem is only with Rome TW.

Odd... huh?

I'd say if the problem's occuring with this graphics card, and you've reinstalled the drivers, another card wouldn't help. Have you made sure you have the latest DirectX installed (9.0c)? Check functionality by going start, run, typing dxdiag, clicking on the display tab, and testing directdraw and direct3d.

Haha you wont believe this DMB14, but I've just had exactly the same problem as you! After swapping and changing partitions (dont ask, long story), Rome, and other games, are behaving strangely. Other games are affected in different ways.

If I manage to fix it I'll post the solution for you. Good luck.

Hahaha! I hope you figure something out. If I get it working I'll let you know.

I have DirectX 9.0 installed, everything that the game needs. I have a new laptop coming on Monday, so I'll see how it runs on that.

I'm pretty sure the graphics card is working properly, as all the battles and campaigns work fine (which is the demanding part for the computer). The trouble is reading through all the jumbled stuff to get to playing the actual game.
