Round Cables I made myself

So I made my floppy, optical, ide cables round by splitting them and then retaping them back up. there were about 3-4 strands of cables that I accidentally exposed when i was splitting them but i taped it up with some electrical tape. should I be worried about this? or will it be okay?
thanks

As long as the drives work, it is fine. The only wires in your computer that you need to be worried about being bare are the power supply wires.

As long as you didn't cut the insulation (so that the actual metal wire is showing) you'll be fine.

but as long as they aren't touching, it is fine.

So how do they work? Any signal degradation? Any improvement in cooling air flow?
Tom

With wiring, just make sure that none of the metal is exposed, and then you should be fine as long as you haven't cut away too much of the insulation. (i.e. don't just strip the whole wire and then cover with tape, that will just melt and be messy inside the compy or whatever you are doing...)

for signal degradation, i don't think there is any. nothing is impared that i noticed. my seek time to my hd isn't 1ms slower or anything. as for improvement for air flow, i have yet to test it because the way my case sits, one side panel is off (getting ready to install everything into my p180).. and after it's been installed into my p180, i won't really have a base to compare my rounded cables and my old flat cables. so let just say, in my mind, there will be a drastic improvement of air flow and less turbulent air traveling throughout the case. :D

It shouldn't melt, standard electrical tape is rated over 100* C

thank you.

Yah I'd agree, just make sure the metal isn't exposed and none of them are touching. You'll get interference and data corruption if anything is amiss, then you'll know :P

excuse my ugly brown carpet.. it's only temporary.

What the hell? You have a normal IDE cable, but in the middle there's something else there. What is that slot thing?
