Router Dropping on load

Hey all,

I have not really had a problem with my router before this however i have installed a VPN client (shrew soft) and i can connect to the company network fine with no problems however after a while my wireless router will drop and go off the radar, after a few mins it will come back and i can connect again. However this is rather annoying. I am not a network specialist however i think the problem is my side either my router or my modem. As i can connect to the VPN fine on another network fine with no drops.

My router is the following WGR614v9

I have port forwarding setup on 4500 and 500 as shrew soft suggests. My internet is 10mb fibber so the line should be fine in supporting a VPN connection however it does not run at even half this speed.

On my internet properties i have disabled Netbios in WINS. This seems to have helped a bit however i don’t think that’s the problem anymore.

Anyone have any ideas why my router keeps dropping and re-booting? Any suggestions? I am happy to go and buy a new one if you guys think this is what’s causing the problem.

Thanks all :)

I'm too lazy to google, but how old is that router? No matter how fast your internet connection, some older routers just can't cope with a large number of simultaneous connections and will simply go tits and reset.

Yes, I think that's the problem. I can't tell for sure, of course, but if you have any excuse for yourself other than this to upgrade your router, go for it.
