So myself and 3 other guys are buying a house just outside of our local college area and are looking for advice on a router and internet setup that we can hook up all 4 of our computers online simultaneously for gaming and music.

we will be playing games like LoL, WoW, KF2, etc... and running music via stereo as well as voice calls and a tv w netflix plus our cellphones

computers will all be in large living room and preferred to keep them wired, one guy does have a wireless laptop but he can put it on a desk and wire it if need be.

so quite a bit going on at once and very gratefull on any suggestions.

ok i was looking at the router do you think 1300mb/s would be enough?
cause ik my computer pulls on average 300 and 350peak mb/s and assuming all 4 pull 300mb/s thats 1200/1300peak the router puts out. i was thinking more on the 1500-1700 range for spare room plus phones etc..

If they're all wired then whatever works really. Just get the fastest broadband package available.

The 1300 mb/s is a wireless line rate quote that doesn't apply to wired interfaces.

Phones only have 1 or 2 spatial streams so you won't even vaguely max out N or AC with them.

ok thanks for the help, i now have a general idea of what to look for, but i am a fan of asus products but reading the reviews on that particular router make me cringe think i might try something else.

If you read reviews and consider every negative over the positive you will get no where. I have an old DD-WRT flashed WRT54GL and there are negative reviews and I have had it for like 8 years now and it's been solid.

So are you actually nominating that as a suggestion?

It doesn't have enough CPU to route a decent amount of traffic, is limited to G wireless and only has 100 mbit interfaces. At this point in the game you could get something a lot more capable for the same price.

I agree, typically if hardware works, people don't bother to review it, so take reviews you see from customers with a grain of salt. Read actual reviews on products to see what the author thinks. I've had great success with Asus equipment.

As someone else mentioned, I'd look at an 802.11ac wireless router, as it should work well for your needs. With 4 people streaming and gaming, you are going to want a higher end package from your ISP. I'd say 50+ would be a good starting point.
