Router or Ethernet?

First of all hi, as this is my first post.

Anyways, recently I have been getting annoyed with my router because for all the latest games that I play, Half-Life 2, Counter Strike: Source and Battlefield 2 need ports to be forwarded, and my router can store 20 ports max. My router is an Add On 4 Port ADSL Router. (http://www.addon-tech.com/) is the homepage of my router. So recently I’ve been wondering would it be better to get my ethernet back online or stick with the router. My plans for the ethernet would be to plug the ethernet it self and the modem into my laptop and leave it on stand by, powering the other computers in my house. Would this be practical, I mean can the laptop still power the ethernet if it’s in stand by? Will it damage the laptop? And do you think it would be best use the ethernet rather than the router?

Well You probably ave the router to use multiple computers.. (I am assuming of coarse) So if you would like to keep that function just trun DMZ on for your specific computer. DMZ is the Demiliterized Zone, Were basically the firewall part of the router does not apply to your computer. You should turn your winxp firewall on in this case. Thus with the DMZ, you wont need port forwarding, and you can still have multiple connection.

How would i go about doing this, as on my router i can only forward ports and thats it, as far as i've looked.

Is there a way on windows to doing it?

There is a very small chance that your router does NOT have DMZ option. Look around in the router settings for it, its almost certainly in there.
