Router problem?

Hi,
I just upgraded my internet service from DSL to Comcast broadband and can only connect to one PC at a time. My setup is running the ethernet cable out of the Comcast modem to a trend router (not wireless) and then the ethernet cables to the two computers. When I called Comcast they told me to power cycle the modem and Trend router and then restart the computer that has the bad connection. That works, but then the other computer has the same problem of not connecting. So I can only connect to one PC at a time. One computer is running Windows 7 and the other XP. Any ideas to solve this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks, Paul.

Make sure you have both set to receive IP address automatically and don't have them set to a manual IP address. Also does this router have 4 wired ports? Try connecting to the other ports.

Thanks,
I will try that about the settings to be auto. Is that option under the network connections tab? The router has 5 ports, one on the end for the wan cable.

Dumb question, but let's go from the start - did both work right up until the isp change? Did you use the same router with the old isp's modem?

Are all cat-5 cables functional if you switch them?

Which computer works? Xp or win7? Does either not recognize the connection while plugged in? Is there new drivers for either network card?
