Hey. i have wanted to host an online radio station server.. i came across SHOUTcast.com and its fairly decent. However, my router wont let people access it. it runs of port 8000, and runs and opens the server page on my LAN fine, but when any1 outside of my network wants to use it. "page cannot be displayed" when they try to open my server page. im using a DI-604 (Dlink). any help is appreciated

You have to access your router and create a virtual server on that port and forward the incoming requests to your PC, opening a firewall is not enough.
I also found it easiest to have people go to the shoutcast page and seach for my handle; that was easier than giving them my IP. I am assuming that you have a dynamic IP.

ok, well i went into my router, told it to open port 8000 as a virtual server... i didnt know wiehter to make it UDP or the other option i forget what it was, so i said "both" (which was what was recommended) now. still nothing. you say port forwarding? how do i do this?

When you create your virtual server, you have to forward the port in question to your PC's address, make sure that you have the correct address in the box. To find out your PC's IP, click on Start--Run type in cmd.exe enter then ipconfig
that will tell your PC's IP, that the port is to be forwarded to.

yep, i did that, but still says page cannot be displayed. when they enter my IP do they put 192.xxx.x.xxx:8000 or 192.xxx.x.xxx to access it? after i make this virtual server...

ALSO. when you put that should it come up witht he D.N.A.S. page.. or do i have to link it directly to the stream?

192.?? is probably your private IP. You would need to hand out your router's public IP.
I usually look on www.shoutcast.com and search for my name, once I find it there, (it may take 5 minutes of playing for my station to appear on the list), I tell people to do the same...go to shoutcast.com, search for my name, and click the link to begin the stream. I have never had to give out the address.
