Hi i am wondering if changing router would change internet speed for cable (time warner)

i have the standard cable router that they installed for me at home but it often disconnects and im wondering if that has anything to do with router or is it just problem that isp have?

3People use the internet and when they stream or watch movies online the internet becomes unstable and either disconnects or gets huge spike in ping now and then.

I do know streaming and watching online uses big portion of internet since its same is downloading or uploading but they becomes really unstable worse than adsl sometimes and since im paying much more than adsl for cable i feel like something must be wrong?

Changing a router will not change your speed, unless you have gone into the settings and have choked down access for particular IP's that are connected to the router. What brand and model of router do you have and how old is it. If it was a cheap router it may not be able to handle the traffic that you are pulling through it. If you plan on having heavy data traffic through your router, you want to have a good brand router.
