Router Turning off its Wireless? Help Me plz.

I had a computer connected throgh an ethernet cable to my router. It is a linksys WCG200-CG comcast modem-and-router-in-one. However, that computer had a virus and wasn't working well. I reformated the hardrive. So i did that and I moved the computer. Its not connected wired anymore. I tried using a wireless adaptor and I am now trying to connct to the router on that computer in a different room. However, although all the other computers in my house can access the router perfectly well, the computer I'm talkin about cannot. Whenever it tries to access the router the router shuts down its wireless. The wireless signal dissapers from all the compuer's range. Only turning that computer off and restarting all the computers trying to access the router works. Is this some type of security feature? I never heard of anything like that, especially when it turns off the signal of all the wireless devices in the house, even the ones that normally are enabled. Can anyone help me with this problem?

(And it doesnt matter how many devices are trying to access the the router. When only that computer is trying to access it, it still shuts off. The router has had a few problems from the getgo, like not being able to recognise most of the devices that are connected. i just assumed that was a firmware problem and didn't look into it really.)

p.s. My setup = I have 128-bit WEP enabled on the router. 3 computers hooked up wirelessly, all with static ip adresses (including the one I'm talkin about) and an xbox 360 hooked up to a bridge on one of the computers, which also has its own static ip. One of my friends often comes over with his laptop and connects to the router and I have another laptop in the house that connects sometimes but is rarely ever used.

please?
edit: also sometimes the connection that DOES work sends packets but doesnt receive any. Does anyone know any common reasons or ways to solve this problem?

Try updating the firmware, Ill have more time tomorrow (about 7 hrs form now to offer mor eindepth ideas). Gotta sleep now.

Try fimrware though, let me know.

*OK im back!

If the firmware did not work... Try thie following ideas.
-Make sure the computer works via ethernet (yes even witrh the format)
-Make sure the ip is not assigned incorrectly in the lan setting sunder networ config.
-If the router is using DHCP, turn it off and try manuallt assigning the ip.
If none of the works, is it possible to just grab an adhoc connection from one of your other computers wireless cards?

Firmware for the router right?
Actually, lol, I don't know how to. I tried to do that earlier (before the problems started occuring) but couldnt find out where to get the firmware updates fom.
Like I said above, it's the linksys/comcast router-modem all in one.

p.s. the computer DOESNT work through ethernet. I just tried it. Would i need to reinstall the drivers? I dont remember having to install the drivers on my laptop i sometimes used to hook up to the router wired. I dont think the computer even recognises that it is hooked up to an ethernet cable.
Before the reformat, it was always connedted wired though.

Let me look into this exact type of device.. be back soon.

Ok here is something. I went to the linkysys.com and found there are 2 different version for your router/modem. V1.0 and v2.0 Here is a link to each.

V1.0 driver

V2.0 Driver

And you know this is a gateway right? Not a router/modem...

Your cable ISP can update the firmware automatically(of this model). DSL ISPs can do the same for DSL modems.

The first thing you should do is call your cable company, and explain what's happening. I bet you're not the only one.

Check out this thread, people having the same issue!

Here is their solution

Well I think I solved this, but I have not 100% tested it, but so far it looks good.

Yesterday I was working hard at trying to find solutions online, and I found something 'similar' to the issue, but I never really found something exactly like what people were explaining, nor something that would fix it.

Basically all I did was go into the Device Manager, right click on the Wireless Adapter I was using on this laptop, and chose Properties. Clicked on the Advanced tab, and set the following:

Channel: 6 (was on 1, which was wrong, by default it should have been 6 which the Linksys sets)

Power Save Mode: OFF (I think this is the important change. Mine was originally on High I think)

SSID: linksys (I typed this in, just because I had just reset the router to factory/default setings, but I figured it was ok. You can also type "ANY" there if you wish).

Every other setting I really did not touch, but this fixed it. The internet was fully functional, and no crashing thus far. Hope this helps anyone with the similar issue

Lol. What is the difference between a router and a gateway?

edit: And also i went to that site. I don't know which version I have, v1 or v2 and when i tried to instsll the drivers, the computer ecnountered a few problems and wouldnt start up right. I had to reformat again.

I probably "installed" the drivers wrong. (I'm a complete noob lol). perhaps you might be able to tell me what to do with the drivers after i download them?

You tried to install those drivers on your local computer? No no no... Those are for your router. You login to the router //localip like //192.168.2.1 or //192.168.1.1 and go to the firmware section, and point to the file...

ANYWAY, try logging in and doing what they state in the fix...

this difference is one is for networking and the gateway is just for internet acess make sure its set on gateway that might have been your prob but its in the setup part then in advanced routing

to update the firmware go to administration tab and update firmware make sure you have enough time to do it cause you cant turn the computer off until its done

hope that helps let me know if you have any probs

in not talking ot you like a dumb!@# im just giving you all the info so you can get it done without having to wait for someone to get back to you

good luck fun surfn hope it helps
