Router vs Switch (did research!)

Hello, I spent the last couple of hours reading and about Switches and Routers. The only reason I did is because I found out that I am still using a HUB .
So now I am trying to make my connection a tiny bit faster by either using couple month old wireless router (but since my existing router is the same brand my computer will probably get confused when I punch in www.routerlogin.com since there will be two routers) or by getting a switch. I can get a very good deal on 10/100 Netgear switch so I though of just going with that since it wont mess up anything but then I started to read about wired routers and that is where I got lost. Is router same as switch but with WiFi or is it better in some way?

Here is a little diagram I did, could you please tell me which one would give me better connection for bedroom computer.

I did some more thinking and I think I finally figured it out.
I'll go with option 1, since I only have my PC and Xbox. I don't use both at the same time so switch will do a fine job. I'll put my WiFi Router in the living room and feed Broadband straight into that. Then I'll program the QoS on the router to give my MAC and (port on router) priority over everything else connected. That way I'll have some increase in speeds.

Get a linksys, I don't want to sound like a spokes person, but its good stuff. Iv had issues with netgear. Also you aren't still using that hub right? As far as the QoS Its not going to work like you'd think. Just leave the settings default. Everything else set up the way you want, but make sure it use encryption if you live near other people. For a small network setup just use a 4 port wireless router. Also what do you mean by I dont use both my PC and Xbox at the same time so a switch will do a fine job, a switch and a router are going to do nearly the same job in your environment. Just get a home Router(Layer 3 switch, Access point, Router all in one)
