Routers: Wired or wireless

Hello all. First post here. I am looking to setup a router in my home so that I can stream Netflix to my a/v center. I currently have a 5mb internet connection, which works well streaming the content directly to my pc. I would like to get a Western Digital WD TV Live Hub Media Center and use the ability to stream content to it as well.

I'm looking at the wired vs. wireless delimma. I believe wired is more stable given it's static connection and is also more secure, of course the trade off is running cat5 cable under the house. Not a big deal and have done it numerous times, but not something I look forward to.

Wireless is appealing due to the fact that I can also use that technology w/ my laptops and run streaming content to other rooms. I have been looking at the 802.11N routers, but have no idea how much is enough and what is overkill. If you were looking at wireless, would n150, n300 or n600 be necessary to do this?

Thanks much!

No one? I'm sure there are many here who stream content to their home a/v system. I'm really only asking how fast it needs to be?

I stream Netflix through my Xbox at home with my Wireless-N and it's wireless. It works perfectly fine. However, not everything on my network is Draft-N, so it still runs at G, which still has good speeds.

If you worry about signal loss in your home, I'd go with wired. It's always a lot easier to set up wired connections with devices then it is with wireless.

If you're looking for a good router to go with, Linksys is by far one of the best companies to go with.

The Linksys E1000 is on sale on Newegg. I suggest that one.

Otherwise, my D-Link router is also a good choice.

I run a Linksys wired that I've had for several years and its as solid as ever. All I did to get wireless was to purchase a Access Point and now our laptops can connect to the internet virtually anywhere in the house.

Of course I am limited to G but it works well.

If you plan to stream HD content, go wired. Even with 802.11n using my WD HDTV streaming 1080p video from my PC with a solid signal was freezing every minute or two.

thanks for the responses. I ended up getting the Linksys router that Voyager mentioned. It took a few tries with the wireless adapters though b/c the WD media hub that I am using was pretty picky about which ones would work. It seems to be working like a champ now.
