Roxio Creator 6 error message: can not detect recorders...

Please help if you can. Just got a brand new computer. When I try to use my Roxio software and click on the button to make a copy of a disk I get this message:

"Disc Copier could not detect any supported recorders. Please ensure your recorder is properly connected. If the problem persists, please reinstall Easy CD & DVD Creator."

I know the CD drive is properly connected(it works to play CD's and videos). I tried the reinstall. I searched the forum and tried the "pxengine" fix that someone suggested.

Is there anything else I could do? If not, can someone recommend a freeware program that will do the same thing as Roxio? Thank you. Frank
 
What you need for that is the Drive Updater patch, DU20041203.exe, which is available on the Roxio.Com Software Updates page for version 6. From memory you scroll to the bottom of the page to find it. That patch recognizes your drive, and should solve these problems.
 
Thanks for your help but it did not work. I did some more research and I read someplace that roxio creator 6 is not compatible with dual layer. The spec sheet on my computer says the drive is dual layer. Do you think that is my problem?
