Hello, Gentlemen
Hoping someone can help me with a problem or two.First of all, every time I boot up my desktop the following messages appear in the same sequence
Open settings.rtf file failed
Open networks.rtf file failed
Open statistics.rtf file failed
Open about.rtf file failed
Only when I OK or cancel these will my broadband internet connection pick up a signal and connect. I know this is not exactly the end of civilisation as we know it but it is annoying.
Also, the machine is noticeably slower this last week or 2 and has done strange things like uninstalling my router. I have run Windows One Care, defragmented the main disk, tried to shift some unused files and run any numbers of anti virus software e.g. Spybot, AVG Free, Ad Aware. I have also done a system restore back to when I remember the machine as running ok. I also tried to uninstall Noadware which is no longer supported by the manufacturers but the pc won't let me do this- something to do with lack of an uninstall file. Short of reinstalling Windows, which I am not capable of doing, any ideas anyone? If you can help, please be gentle with me and where possible use terminology at the computer "Janet and John" level.
Thanks in advance
