What are some helpful universal settings for an RTS game that can help me play better?

Like for example, the scroll wheel was was to scroll up = camera down, and scroll down = camera up, I wasn't use to that, so I switched them around, and now I feel like I was more use to the original settings.

Also, is there a game pad that would help or something?

I really like the World in Conflict demo, but I'm noticing some lag, with deploying commands and stuff, but it's probably the server or the demo..

Any other tips are fine.

Thanks.

Basically just learn the hotkeys so you don't have to click everything, and use the mouse to select/move and scroll, which rts are you playing?

edit: just saw that world in conflict part :D

the way of controlling WiC is really as easy as it gets (imo) :) I have the full game, and didnt have lag so far when deploying something, so yea, I gues thats the demo?
I couldnt reccomend a gamepad for a rts either, (as far as I know) all rts's are designed for mouse/keyboard use. the only thing that would make you play a rts better is by getting a really good knowledge about the units really. and to know in order to build/order which inuts.
