I came home from work and my a sign popped up saying cpfrtk.dll could not be started. Could not be found. Something like that.THen i restarted my computer and message saying the same thing but with urxqfu.dll could not be found.
I'm not to sure what this is called, When the computer is reading it makes the clicking noise. It won't stop reading even though there may not be any tasks running. Could this be related? THanks for your help.

Are you hearing the clicking sound coming from the hard drive? That would point at a failing drive where you can expect to see an endless number of errors until it simply goes doa on you. When the arm the drive read/write heads are on start slapping around information on the drive including drivers cannot be read and loaded properly.

Well, i guess its a good thing i have 2 back up External Hard Drives. What can I do to find out if its failing for sure? Just wait?

Most older brand name drives will have drive diagnostic tools available at the manufacturer's own support site. For Western Digital that would be their LifeGuard tools seen there. Do you know the make at least if not model drive?

I wouldn't trust it. I've had a few pass and fail, dead or not.

Put your ear to it, if I can hear an irregular rythmic beating, it's most likely done for.

I wouldn't either. Most of the utilities are simply basic softwares looking for bad sectors and won't indicate mechanical problems like a slapping arm for the heads. This is one reason for pointing out that it could go doa at any time without warning.

The best thing now is simply going with a new replacement and simply slaving this one long enough to grab anything you can off of it and send it on it's way to the recycle bin. Once it dies you would otherwise need to have a professional service rescue files and data directly off of the drive's platters for a hefty fee.

ahh, Well im starting to back up my stuff on the computer. And then one of my External HD's popped up a message saying .

Now when a HD crashes, it doesn't work right? This External is still running just now it pops up with this message.

When your OS drive is failing or simply seeing Windows problems you can expect to usb and other types of error messages. With the drive failing you can expect anything to start appearing until the drive itself simply quits on you. I wouldn't worry about seeing that one. A new drive with a fresh copy of Windows will clean all this up.

Once plugged in on another system the installer for the drive's software should come up automatically unless one of the files for that is missing. The replacement software for external drives is usually in a zip file you download from the support site and simply unpack onto the factory partition.

When first buying an external drive for Windows use only not Mac the best move found and advised by the manufacturer's themselves is simply to reformat the Fat32 to NTFS. The drive is then automatically seen by Windows with XP seeing the autoplay prompt appear. In Vista the new hardware found message comes up as it is simply installed as a new logical drive.
