Running at 100%

Hi

We have a
N0186022 VOSTRO A860 : CONFIG 7 UK
VOSTRO A860 : INTEL CELERON 560 (2.13GHZ
OPERATING SYSTEM : ENGLISH WINDOWS VISTA

The laptop was working perfectly until we upgraded to the new version of Norton and a service update to Vista. Since then we have difficulty with the processor running at 100% continously for long periods of time.

We have added more memory and there is no problem with the memory at all.

Can some one help please

Unisntall Norton and see if that fixes it. If so, install AVG which is as good as Norton and free.

VIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! or at least i think. i remember this happening to me after i got a virus, and then when i used system restore to go back the day before the virus, it worked fine. good luck :)

System restore doesn't remove viruses. It only happened once norton was updated (Service Pack is fine). Pretty clear what it is.
 
Norton Anti-Virus is malicious software Heh! Heh! I wouldn't install it on any operating system because it is just awful.

"Norton Ghost Version 15" is a great program that I use weekly to clone and make data backups. But it is the only good program I know of that Norton makes.
 
Sometimes programs can corrupt or something and do this, just a min ago i tried to play a game on steam and it was screwing up and i had to use tskmngr to close it and even after that and a few other programs to see my cpu was doing 90+%, but for this if it is a recurring event over multiple loads, then i'd say do a checkpoint restore just to check, then reinstall norton, and tell us what happens
 
Download and install Superantispyware free version and update it.

Run it.

Fix anything it finds and restart.

Type cmd in the windows button search field and right click on cmd and run as admin

Then type the following including space

sfc /scannow

this will ensure the operating system is fine

then run windows update
 
In my opinion, don't try system restore, especially now that you've updated both Norton and Windows. Perhaps something may go wrong and your system suffers more.

About the CPU running at 100%, I can't say much except that it may be the updates you installed. I would suggest opening up the task manager and clicking on the tab titled processes. If you see anything suspicious there, end it. If you're going to do this, however, I suggest you be careful as you may end a critical process that may shut down your computer.
 
i wonder if there are any programs that can tell you which processes are using how much power, it would be a nice utility and could probably sell for a few bucks, not too much though.
 
well i meant more of a specific percentage or something but that is true, and do you know what "System Idle Process" is, cuz it uses the most and is always there so i want to know if it's necessary since its been a little slow for a while and i've defraged and scanned it and the registry.
