Running multiple anti-malware programs

From what I have read running multiple antivirus programs is a relatively bad idea. I have installed MSE but am thinking of switching over to avast. No real reason. Just feel like my new pc had a few problems that started after installing it.

I have installed spybot but intend to switch to malwarebytes. I was wondering if it would be ok to add a second. In this case I was thinking of installing superantispyware.

Is it ok to have both of these programs on my system along with my antivirus?

I had accidentally installed firefox through a third party installer. It used the optimum installer and started to install a bunch of toolbars. Cancelled the installer and uninstalled those toolbars. Just want to be able to make sure with some of the better anti-malware programs.

You can install as many malware programs as you want but only 1 antivirus program can be installed at any given time. Spybot is crap anymore. Superantispyware and Malwarebytes are much better programs to use. Malwarebytes for the win though.
