Running Parallels virtual xp on vista usb issue

I have an old hp scanner that is not supported by vista, along with a few other programs that vista doesn't exactly like, so I installed XP pro on a Parallel Workstation virtual OS. I have it installed and running, and i installed the drivers for the scanner on the virtual OS, but it doesn't recognize the scanner when i either plug it in, or run the scanner software. If anyone has experience with parallels, any help would be appreciated.

the name of the software is "Parallels"
parallels.com
If anyone has a better suggestion for virtual OS software, feel free to mention it, I looked at virtual PC, or whatever microsoft gives away, but I have Vista Home premium which i do not believe it supports.

I use parallels all the time on my mac. Make sure you have all the proper drivers installed on your virtual machine. Other than that, it should work as normal. Make sure you have plenty of RAM as well.
