This new firm pops up and finds the "largest ever security breach" (Hold Security). They've got about 500M emails that their toting around to verify the authenticity of this breach. Not the usernames and passwords. Just email addresses.

This has scam written all over it. Anyone can get a webcrawler to find a bunch of email addresses scattered all over the Internet. Now their trying to get people to pay them for security monitoring to see if your email address pops up on this list of "stolen data".

The only reason that authors actually made these articles is that they were slipped a few hundreds from Hold Security. I guarantee it. Usually the tech writers from major blogs aren't complete dumb asses, but everybody can be bribed.
