I bought stalker clearsky awhile ago, but couldn't really get into it, it was buggy and ran poorly. I found it frustrating on top of that.

my question is; if I buy stalker:shadow of Chernobyl (with oblivion lost mod). will I have a better time? what is the difference visual? will it likely engage me? (in all these questions it is understood that I couldn't wrap my head around clearsky)

Is stalker:shadow of Chernobyl the first one? if so, don't bother. Stalker is one of the very few games that I deleted before beating single player, the story was half decent but the gameplay just frustrated me way too much (i.e, not being able to shoot someone from 20 feet away).

The graphics looked nice on clearsky but I think im gona steer clear of it because of what you just posted.

Both Stalker SOC and Stalker Clear sky were very buggy when they came out (Clear sky still has problems) .The first one is actually better I think.They are an aquired taste to be sure and not for everyone
 
I purchased this game when it came out because it looked good,But its utter crap!

I played about 10 mins of it and that was it....uninstalled it.
 
I found a copy at the bargin bin an decided it was worth the gamble.

turns out to be way better then clearsky, I'm actually enjoying it!
 
Both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have had the same issues, when released they have more bugs than you could imagine. But apparently a few months after the release, they've been able to fix most bugs.
 
People are very split about STALKER. personally, it is one of my all-time favorite games. both clear sky and shadow of chernobyl ***ONCE PATCHED!!!*** are very engaging and atmospheric games. the graphics are very good, the lighting can be terrific if your rig can handle it!

but for god sakes, patch the game up, and give it another shot. save often, as its very easy to die lol. once you get a MP5, you'll quit thinking about not being able to hit people farther than 20ft away.
 
This game is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of my all time favourites and I havent even finished it yet!
tips for anyone starting out:
1)its important that you meet up with friendly stalkers before going into car park looking for nimble
2) go to the trailer of the road to the left for a really snazzy pistol
