s-video out problem

i have an s-video deo to rca convertor cable and i am trying to hook my comp to a tv for watching movies etc. The only problem is when the computer starts up i can switch the display to the tv, but when the login screen comes up it switches the display back to the primiary monitor. Does anyone know how to fix this.

Honestly I've never hooked up my pc to the tv so I'm not sure how it would react and if this is even abnormal :-). I do wonder though about screen resolution though... I'm not sure just how this works but the tv would not be able to work with certain resolutions so perhaps the login screen is not a resolution that the tv likes although this is a guess ;-). Have you tried different drivers? I would try at least a couple of driver versions to see if the problem is corrected.

It always helps if you can provide more information on your setup. This would be your system specs and of course very importantly in this case your video card. I imaging it's just the way your using your t.v as the secondary monitor in the end :-). If you had it set as your primary then perhaps you would have the login screen show up on your tv. Perhaps you might want to try that first.

Here is some added info on my laptop
pavilion zv5000
ati mobility radeon 9000
i have tried all screen resolutions and color settings and this has changed nothing. I have not yet found any drivers that would affect the s-video port on the video card.

I'm sorry but i'm guessing here :-) so I hope someone can actualy reply with something solid but I would think that the laptop will not recognize the t.v hooked up until the system has loaded the operating system. Is there a way to set the laptop to use another monitor as primary? or is this not possible? if so then set the t.v as primary and see if that makes a diff. I'm a bit curous though :-) why is it important that you have the login screen on your t.v if everything else after it works fine?

i think i was a little vauge about the login screen problem. I can switch it to tv but when the longin screen comes up it goes back to the primary monitor, (And will not go back to the tv after that). Hope this clears up any confusion.

Are there both the monitor and the tv selected in display properties/settings/advanced/displays?

as soon as windows loads i cannot access the tv as a monitor. In the advanced options on my video card it shows the tv as not connected.
