S-video question

I just bought a s-video cable to connect my pc to my tv. when i hooked it, my desktop would constantly flash on the tv and in weird colors. how do i fix this?
 
Sounds like a problem with the cable...like a short or something. Or, you havn't tried to set it from NTSC to PAL or anything like that, have you?
 
i dont think it could be the cable b/c i just bought it today but i'll try it with another. i probably didnt change the tv settings b/c i have no idea how.
 
I've had new cables short out just as I've had new computer parts crap out on day one :P

As for the settings, I was refering to your video card, not your TV(which doesn't allow such changes)
