s-video to composite/rca help

I want to connect my laptop to a tv and use it in dualview mode.
My laptop has an svideo out but my tv only has rca. I got an s-video to rca cable, however it doesn't work right.

The problem is not the tv, I have tried multiple tvs and had the same results. It is also not the cable, as I have tried it with another computer and it worked. The problem is with my laptop I am afraid.

What happens is the screen is black, unless I right click on the nvidia control panel, it will flicker on for as long as it takes the menu to pop up, then will go black again. Its really weird. I have followed all the directions in my laptop manual and have had no luck.

My card is an 8400gs
 
I've never liked nvidia's control panel or recent TV-Out options. I had quite a few problems trying to make my 7600GT work on my old desktop.

Have you tried using the keyboard shortcut? FN-F5 on my Acer here
