S-Video to TV

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop (dv6974), and am trying to connect my laptop to my TV via S-Video to watch videos. At the moment I am using a 7-pin S-Video cable to video RCA and then plugging that in to my TV, but my laptop refuses to detect it. Is there any way that I can force my laptop to detect the TV?
I have an nVidia 8400GS with the most up-to-date drivers.
I know I could try rolling back drivers, just wondering if any of you have any other solutions.

dont have nvidia control panel on hand here.
but you need to activate rigorous tv detection or something like that.
some older crt tv's can't be detected through s-video.
