Safe mode

just a got a nasty trojan horse, and my friend is trying to fix it. He recommended satrting in safe mode is it-

F8-safemode with network support

Is that the correct thing to do?

does network support mean I can use the internet?

What is safe mode? Everything seems to be moving slowly? When do you use it? What things can you do on it and what cant you do? Can you play movies, download stuff, play games etc internet?

In future when should I use safe mode?
 
Safe Mode with Networking allows you to access any network resources, including the internet. That's the one I use.

Other than that, Safe Mode doesn't load any drivers or TSRs. That way you can effectively repair any damage to Windows. You don't use it to play games or anything else.
 
Why is it when I try to run in safe horse it freezes up and writes a bunch of stuff??
 
first off, it would help if you told us what the name of the virus is
every virus has a different way of cleaning, so scan your computer, write down the name of the bug and post it here, or better yet post your hijack log.

The question wasn't about the trojan, it was about safemode.
 
If it does it in safe mode that is usually a pretty safe bet that you are having hardware issues as opposed to software issues. Not always, but usually.
