Safe to sent email and texts?

It seems like the government can read everything, but I want to really find out. This PRISM thing seems to be about phone data, but what about emails and text messages?

Also, does a secure messaging app like Tigertext which auto-deletes message prevent the government from reading those messages?

In case of e-mail, don't use american providers, as they are pretty much obliged to just hand over all the data to the government (I heard scandinavian companies have good reputation when it comes to privacy). Moreover, you might want to use paid and crypted services, so even in case if someone gets your e-mails it should be much more difficult for them to actually read these e-mails.

All encrypted emails and attachments that are routed through the United States are red-flagged and saved for government analysis.

Since SSL has been cracked, there's no longer any guarantee of security. The only thing that would work well is to send the recipient a TrueCrypt file container with a long and strong password via other means than email, and creating the container using cascading encryption algorithms (= instead of just using AES, use something like AES-Serpent-Twofish). It'll get saved for cracking, and your recipient will need to have TrueCrypt as well on their machine, but if the password is tough enough, even Uncle Sam won't be able to open it.

This only works if the person you send a email to uses a Scandinavian company as well.

shellyesmalls,
There is not much you can do about your cell phone service, you may be able to erase the data on your phone but every time you send a text message or make a phone call your cell phone provider records that data on their server's.

Honestly the big problem is not even that, the NSA is hacking random computers, there server intercepts your IP address when using a search engine and if you are using a proprietary operating system like Windows or OS X then they have all the tools to hack into your machine to take a look through your files. Currently Linux users are the only ones they have not been able to hack, this is only because system like Windows they are hacking through the security flaws that was purposely put there as per the EULA every one signed to use the product.

I have not on this forum but I am asking everyone to write their Congressmen for the state they belong to and inform them of the wrong doing that we as the American people feel is happening.
