Sales tax on newegg :(

Well, just for fun I went ahead and bought XP Home OEM from newegg. My first purchase toward my new PC! So I didn't actually buy any *hardware* yet, sue me! :)

I did discover, however, the lovely detail that since I'm in New Jersey, I have to pay sales tax on my orders! What luck! Does this at least mean I might get things faster since they have a location here?
 
i feel ur pain man i live in jersey too and i had to pay like 60 bucks on my order which really sucked cause i was right at my budget as it was. Im still saving up for my e8400 and taxes sure arent helping me. And yes u will prolly get things faster. One of my items was shipped from cali and came in 3 days and the other items came from jersey in a day.
 
I guess most websites and local companies are separate... I know for Tigerdirect I must pay tax, but places like Ritz camera, I don't have to(and yes, there are local stores...)

Buying a case on the internet sucks.....

It really all depends where they're selling out of. I have to charge both taxes in Ontario, GST for the rest of Canada... When I ship to the US AFAIK they pay taxes when it crosses the border. I know I have to pay tax and duties when I bring things in.. I've imported thousand of dollars worth of stuff and they've hit me hard at the border :(

You're right about that. I can buy the P182 at a local store for $10 more than Newegg, but because Newegg's shipping is $19, I end up *saving* money by getting it at the store.

It does, although sometimes Newegg offers reduced or even free shipping on cases. If not then thats why it's best to buy multiple things at once, I've always hated having to buy a $0.99 item when I needed to pay $4.99 shipping.
 
That's a bummer about the sales tax. I bet on big orders like full builds and stuff that kills budgets.
 
yea across boarder shoppnig/shipping is bad, i've ahd to pay some heafty taxes... if its something small i'll jsut smuggle it over :D
