salvaging hard drive data

is there a way to hook up my old laptop that has a crashed 20gb drive as a slave or network to my new laptop that has an 80gb drive. i am runni9ng xp pro on the new one and the old one has win98. i cant open the old one in win98 only in dos. will my new computer access the data just like it does when i put a card reader in the usb connector? should i use usb to usb as the connector or serial to usb .....i can of course adjust the network settings in my new computer but the old one is only accessable in dos......help is appreciatted............

cromewell...thanks for the input...i found a cable /convertor on th enet for 19.95.....should be here in hawaii in a few days...my question is will this second drive by pass the windows program on it(which is defective or damaged) and open in my windows xp format that is on my new computer and then have the files accessable just like i was using my new computers' drive......? what should i expect when i hook all this up and run it? thanks mahalo
 
if you're running it as a secondary you will just see all the information on the hard drive, even the windows OS. just like your primary hard drive on your machine right now if you opened it.
