Same hard drive, different computer?

Say I have a computer with access to a DVD player, and another without. Could I take out the second computer's hard drive and put it in the first computer to install an operating system, then replace all the drivers and transfer the hard drive back to the second computer? Or is there something wrong with this, such as an OS's integration with a specific BIOS?

It is easier to take out the Optical Drive and put it in the computer where you will be installing operating system. Install, then put the Optical Drive back in the first computer.

You can also use USB External DVD-Rom.

You can also install Operating System from USB Thumbstick.

If it´s win 7 you can do it from within windows. I had my partitions ready , ran the iso in xp and installed to the partition of my choice. Just choose the custom mode.

Edit: If your both PC´s have the same hardware then yes.
