Samsung syncmaster 940BW photo editing

I recently purchased a 940BW lcd monitor. My wife is a printmaker and edits photographs in the process. The photo images are distorted (4:3 image stretched to 16:9 image) on the 16:9 ratio LCD compared to our old 19" CRT. How do I set the computer and/or LCD to display photo to have the same visual aspect on the 4:3 CRT. If I can not correct this problem I guess the widescreen LCD will have to go back. Any help appreciated?
 
You need to go into your graphics card software, separate or not and change your resolution to 1440x900, I have the exact same monitor, widescreens are great....

If this doesn't help than you may not be able to display the photo's the size of the screen, set the photo's resolution to a lesser revolution...
 
The system is running an onboard Sis 651. When I list all valid modes , the list does not have a resolution of 1440x900. I guess I need to upgrade my system with a better video card.
