sandbox browsers

firstly, thanks for all the friendly advice i received on this forum

i have another question, comodo internet security offers me the option of using my browsers, like firefox etc in a sandbox, it says "run installed browsers in sandbox"

is this a good idea, or would it be better to just use my browsers normally, any downsides to doing it?

thanks a lot

Sandbox can be a pain most of the time but if you aren't aware of what you are downloading or what websites you are visiting, it can help you.

hi john, thanks, what's painful about them if you have the time?

from what i've read about sandboxes it works the same as the regular browser but it stops you potentially picking up malware?

Well I run Avast antivirus, it's default setting is to run in sandbox mode. So if it detects something may be bad then it could stop the program from running even if you say its good. I've had an issue with avast sandbox a time or two. I usually disable it but haven't yet.

oh right, i haven't used avast antivirus for a long time, i just use comodo, i don't think it's defaulting to a complete sandbox, just giving the option to use sandboxed browsers if i want to

i was thinking whether it would be good to use the sandboxed browsers for browsing and especially things like online banking and online purchasing or whether it would be less secure than just not using the sandbox browser option, what do you think?

thanks john

Like I said before, if you are unsure of what you download and what pages you browse, it may help you. But someone like me, it hinders. Personal preference.

but using the sandboxed browsers option comodo offers me would be not be any less safe than not using them?

Use it and see how you like it thats all I can say. If you are prone to download bad software or go to bad websites then by all means use it.
