Hey guys, I was just curious about the difference in performance there would be between the R9 270 and the GTX 470. So the thing is that I already have a custom AMD based desktop I built with an FX 6300 (black edition) along with my R9 270 and of course it runs just fine and perfectly capable. The other side is that I just got a used GTX 470 for my laptop egpu build, but just out of random curiosity I was curious to know whether the R9 270 would be only slightly better or a lot better like the statistical numbers speak. The R9 270 is like a tier 3/4 card equivalent to the 60series nvidia (eg gtx 460/560/660 etc...) and the gtx 470 was a solid tier 2 for its time. The R9 270 has 256bit and the GTX 470 has 320bit, but the R9 270 has about 35-40k more memory bandwidth but the R9 270 has a superior texel rate which is practically slightly more than double the GTX 470.

I could test it out myself but I'm not sure I want to waste the time and effort unless I'll see interesting results.

What do you guys think?

The R9 270 is a rebrand of a Radeon 7850 with a slight clock speed bump and increase in the amount of stream processors. This puts it somewhere between a 7850 and 7870 in terms of performance.

This is a comparison of the 7850 and a 470.

And a comparison of the 7870 and 470. A 270 should sit somewhere in between.

A 270X, if you're curious, is a 7870 with a few tweaks, mainly clock speed I believe.
