Sata 2 Issue

I changed the computer case for my cpu so now its in an antec nine hundred about a month ago. Just today, when I pressed the power button, the computer would stay at the startup bios screen (aka the first screen that shows up when you power on the computer typically shows the brand of the motherboard). So I pressed F2 to enter into bios to see whats happening and noticed that it would say Auto-Detecting SataII_1 ...IDE Hard Disk and would continue searching for the next sata cable for about a minute and show this this: Auto-Detecting SataII_2 ...Not Detected. This is the one that is connected to my dvd drive so I just unplugged it from the drive and connected it back and computer booted up fine. Is there some issue that's going on? This happened twice already in the same week. Also why is Sata 1 showing IDE hard disk when I am using a sata ssd drive?

Try changing the SATA type from IDE to AHCI if you're using an SSD and see if it works then. Note - if you change it to AHCI you may need to reinstall Windows completely on the drive for various reasons.

If you've installed Windows in IDE mode and you want to change it to ACHI, try this MS fix.
And here's another to try.

If neither work reinstall would be necessary to get ACHI mode, but the drive may be running @/near spec already as well as TRIM might be working in IDE mode. So if one of those 2 fixes doesn't work you can check the performance and check if TRIM is enabled. If at least TRIM is enabled you might elect to leave it as is unless you want the other ACHI features.

I have had this very same problem again and again. Every so often, the BIOS startup screen will hang for a while, and after Windows finally does boot, one of my SATA hard drives is missing in Windows Explorer. Unplugging and replugging the cable about five or six times fixes it every time, so I'm guessing that the cable becomes loose over time and/or the contacts get dirty or dusty.
One of these days I'm going to get locking SATA cables.
EDIT: Happened today! The first sign of trouble is usually extremely slow copying or moving of files from one hard drive to another. Checking Device Manager will usually show that the drive with the loose or dirty cable suddenly starts running in PIO mode instead of DMA mode.

Yes this is exactly my problem. It happened to me 5 times already and replugging the sata cable to the dvd drive fixed the issue. I really hope its just the cable and not something major.

Any advice on what to do besides changing the sata cable? Could there be something wrong with the drive itself or the motherboard?

Admittedly there is a chance that perhaps the connector on the motherboard or drive is loose or has a bad solder joint somewhere, especially if it happens more often than, say, 3 or 4 months apart as on my rig.

My motherboard allows me to connect upto 4 sata devices. As of now, I have the dvd rom in port 2 and ssd in port 1. Can I connect the dvd rom in port 3 and leave port 2 empty?
