Hey!

Iv ran out of space on my Hard Drive and am finaly thinking of getting 2 SATA hard drives on Raid0 so i have 2 sata and 1 IDE just for backups and that, but now iv noticed that on the web site it says Sata 2 (SATA-II) ?! Is this some sort of new thing?- or will it still work on my MoBo for Raid 0 ?
The web site is www.overclockers.co.uk

The HDD I was looking at was the:Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6V250F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache
or the Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 250GB 2500KS SATA-II 16MB Cache , are they both the same?- or is one better than the other?

Thanks for your help

sata 2 is backwards compatible, so the drives will work, but with regular sata speeds of course, and both drives are good, but my personal preference is maxtor

Well your motherboard only has 4x SATA150 ports, so the advantages of a SATAII will be wasted. However that looks like a nice hard drive and will work if you deicde to get it.

Thanks for your help!

So, whats the advantages of SATA II? Is it worth thinking about a new MoBo?- I was not really thinkin about gettin a new one yet but eventually I will want X Fire anyway so will need a new mobo with 2 PCIe slots.

Future benefits with fast drives... That's all. Drives don't reach SATA1 or even ATA133 speeds just yet.

Well, I've got what are suppose to be some of the fastest SATA drives out there, yet I can only get 216Mbps burst in my raid.

So your saying that if i got a IDE ATA133 drive and a SATAII drive, and tested the speed it took to transfer a 4GB file, they would be very close to the same speed?

Bechmarks meen nothing in today's world. So many are rigged.
If they want to see what hard drive has the fastest transfer time, why would they rig it?
