SATA Adapter

I have an IDE HDD and 2 IDE Optical drives and a MOBO that has SATA ports (IDE ports too, but that is beside the point). I have recently seen several SATA adapters designed to plug into the back of an IDE drive and make them SATA compatible. So my questions are:

Do you gain anything besides the thinner cable from this (I have no heat issues with the cmputer right now)? Would using these things result in better performance? Do you actually loose speed or gain it? Also, do the adapters themselves work well or are they touchy?

I put this here because I am mainly thinking about the HDD.

Thanks.

chances are your transfer rates would stay the same as the drive's... since it's IDE and not SATA... the only thing i could see is a thinner cable... but you can buy round IDE cables pretty much anywere... i can't see any real reason to use them...

As goosy said, the only difference is the smaller cable. The adapters are meant more for people who have run out of IDE ports, and need to plug it in via SATA.

No actually there is a difference.
My master HD is a SATA drive, and I wanted to plug in a IDE 200gb drive (from old PC). When I plugged the IDE into the ribbon like the cdrom was using, the HD would lag the computer a lot!
I got the adaptor, plugged it in and it works great now.

I am not sure if it was a motherboard issue, or maybe the HD, but it works fine now.

If you mean that you plugged your drive into the same ribbon as the CD, that could be your problem because you shouldnt do that. Hard Drives and Optical drives should have there own channel.

And its probably just a coincidence, since sometimes my computer lags up after i reformat with both IDE and SATA drives.
