Sata Adapters

I have a system I built recently that I would like to add more 2TB HDDs to sometime in the future. I currently use 4 of the 5 available Sata ports on my motherboard (Asrock 970 Extreme3 AM3+). I use 2 for optical drives (DVD burner and Blu-Ray reader), 1 for my new SSD and 1 for my storage drive. Basically, I want to add 2-3 more HDDs for more storage along with backup reasons.

Since I only have 1 Sata port left, I'm thinking I would have to buy a PCIE to Sata add-on card for the required ports. First off, am I correct in assuming this would be perfectly viable? Secondly, with the add-on card (Sata 2 rather than 3), would I notice any sort of speed/performance decrease with any optical drives? How about storage HDDs? 5400 rpm? 7200 rpm? Thanks.

Yeah, you would need to get the addon sata controller cards. I would probably recommend getting a pci express addin card as it would be quicker then a standard pci. But even if you got a pci card you wouldn't notice much of a speed difference.
