SATA and ATA

I am wondering if you use SATA drives will you be able to use the IDE controller slot also. I am rebuilding a computer and would like to use old ATA 100 HD and buy two new SATA HD and use them in RAID.

Make sense?

I am using the old PS, 250 watts- will this be enough for the new MOBO and simple add-ons? With the 20 pin-out connector on it. Will this work for most ATX?

Lastly, this computer I am building is in process and I am still looking at MOBO, I would like a package deal. MOBO, CPU and video (integrated-this will be a server machine and online surfer-no gaming) ANY SUGGESTIONS-RECOMENDATIONS?

Thanks all! I hope to get this project done in a week.

You most certainly can.

Depends on what parts you are using. If this is a new computer, definitely not.

Budget?

First, you do not want them in RAID (unless it's RAID 1).

Second, yes, some motherboards do support that. I know mine does and I bought it off of Fred Flinstone's grandson.

SATA and ATA reply from me

I dont want to spend a ton, proably not more than $150 on MOBO and cpu. I have seen some slower combo for sale on newegg and tigerdirect. Any suggestions with this? Like I said I would like to have VGA onboard as well, I suppose I could go to $200.

What disadvantages would I have with running SATA HD and the old ATA133 HD's?

What would the issues be with RAID 1 and the HD's?

Also about the PS, I am not loading alot on it. But the new MOBO and CPU take more than 250 watts I am hearing, correct?

An AMD 3200+ socket AM2 and a Biostar Tforce 6100 would suit your needs.

Disadvantages? Driver issues. It's a pain to run an IDE and a SATA drive together.

I would suggest just running them all by themselves.

You would need a new PSU
