ok, i know this has been covered many times, but too many results come up in search...
i just got a replacement motherboard (gigabyte GA-8IK1100) and everything is fine until i try to install xp. ive tried many different configurations, but setup cannot detect any hard drives on my comp. i have 2 sata raptors and bios recognizes them, but windows will not and so i cant wipe the drive and install xp. ive tried every combination in bios that i know of to get the drives to be recognized (enabling raid, making the sata recognized as ide, reversing sata0 with sata1, etc.) is there something that needs to be set just-so? thanks

Well usually when installing Windows on a computer with SATA harddrives you have to install the SATA drivers via floppy, usually. Did you get a floppy with the drivers on them when you purchased the harddrives?

i've had a problem like that on my ABIT motherboard, when i tried to install xp it said it couldnt find any hard drives (it was a Maxtor 200GB SATA). On my motherboard, there was a jumper to clear the CMOS, when i did that, and then tried to install xp, it saw the drives and i was able to install, but unfortunetly, every time i restarted my computer i had to reset the cmos.

You need to pop in the winxp CD and when it ask you if you wanna load raid drivers press f6... Then you press f6... Load the raid/sata drivers (same thing) that came with the sata harddrive. If they did not come with any then download it from the manufacturers website. SATA NEEDS THE RAID DRIVERS. If your installing an additional sata drive there drivers are already loaded... I had the same problem a few months ago. Good luck!

hmm i never had to install anything for the drives before, and the drives were oem, so i got no software. ill download them and try this out, thanks

ok... there is no SATA driver for my hard drive. there is software for a controller card that may come with my card, but obviously i dont need a controller card as my board has sata. im really at a loss, i guess ill try gigabyte support, but manufacturers support never gets me anywhere. ill fiddle with it some more in the mean time.. thanks
