I have an ide hd, and an ide and sata mobo. The main connection is ide with master and slave on ide. now i wanna add a third hd and wanted to go sata. i purchased the little adapter that goes on the back of the ide drive to change the connection to sata and hooked it up to my mobo but now i have two problems. 1. which power wire should i use, the floppys or the regular ide hd power cord and 2. do i have to do anything in the bios to get the sata connection to work on my asus p4p 800 se mobo??????? holla back

Why did you get the converter for the drive? Did you run out of IDE connections? Those converters have some incomparability issues(or so I've heard) So I'd avoid them if possible.

As for power, either should work, just be sure and use only one of them. But what do you mean by the "floppys"? Is that what the converter uses? Again, only use one.

I don't know specifically what's required to get SATA to work on that board. Typically it's really nothing. Just be sure the controller(s) are enabled.

Yes i have run out of ide connections, unless i get a raid ide card. The end of the adapter is for a floppy's power cord from the power supply, and the guy in the store also told me thats what it is for, though i would rather use the original power cable. any idea what i would have to look for to see if my sata is enabled? holla back

If you're using a converter of some sort, you might have to use the floppy connector on the converter. I don't know for sure but I suspect it could power something within the converter as well as the drive.

I have an asus motherboard, but I don't have access the the computer right now. It should be listed somewhere in the BIOS, like the advanced setup, or perhaps integrated peripherals.
